Five Minute Friday

October writing Fest

This month I will be linking up with the Five minute Friday Fam in writing for 5 minutes a day for 31 days straight!

Now, I know i haven’t been consistent in writing lately so this is going to be a REAL challenge. I can not promise to write everyday but, I will write on most days 🙂 25% probably.

Below are the prompt words for the month, I am pretty excited about this 🙂 I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

Five Minute Friday

When did I bury my little light in this self dug pit,

When did I exchange my coloured coat for one shaded grey,

Corners now feel safer,

somewhere in the fringes,

not quite wanting to be the center of attraction any  more or sit in the front row.

When did I start hiding?

Are you hiding?

It feels safe to, I know.

But you can only make out shadows in the dark.

Lets stop, I pledge to.

This little lamp of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

This post is a part of Five Minute Friday, a writing flash mob that happens every week when writers are prompted by a single word to write for 5 minutes without any major editing here.

Five Minute Friday

Five minute Friday: Break

After three busy months with school and a busy work schedule, i finally get to have a break. A break off the routine, the early mornings, the late nights, the constant unavailability and the busyness.

It means that I can now focus on things I had earlier taken a break from to free up my time, like blogging:)

I have prayed about this cycle, this cycle of imbalance, I wish that I could do it all at the same time. Balance out work, school, family, friends, writing, exercise and whatever hobby i pick up along the way all in day with a smile on my face.

But then if everything was in perfect balance, there would be no such thing as enjoying a break.

Its good to be back.

Today i am teaming up with a wonderful community of writers on  Five Minute Friday this week as we write about BREAK.

Five Minute Friday: TELL

Linking up over at Five Minute Friday this week’s prompt word is #TELL. Join us!

“There is something i need to tell you,” you moved closer, looked around to ensure no one else was within hearing distance, ” I can’t do keep this to myself anymore.” Quite frankly I wished you would change your mind. I know, I know the bible says confess your sins one to another, but sometimes i wish we didn’t have to. That way I wouldn’t walk around carrying your secret confessions with me, not because they are too much to bear but because after you were done I wasn’t honest to say, “me too, I have gone through the same crap too” or ” I have been there you will get over it too”. Because some things seem too sacred to share (lies we tell ourselves)

But as a good friend would, I stood there and listened. Clutching my scarf tighter, I still do not know if it was from the cold evening breeze or from the fact that it was me you chose to share your past struggles and current resolutions. I listened to what your ‘this’ was and understood it 100 %. After standing out in the cold, by the side of the road which was our chosen confession booth, I walked home amazed by your fearlessness, by your courage to overcome and to be set free, by your ability to tell that which would have been easier to leave unsaid.

What better song to go with this than Tenth Avenue North’s song Oh my dear.

Fill :Five minute Friday

I have been blog hopping lately, reading everything i come across from my favorite writers

I must say, there are many great bloggers out there and with time i have fallen i love with their words.

It is interesting how I haven’t met any of my fellow bloggers on FMF but every friday i know most of those whose blog posts will be put up top 20:)

Each day I walk around with beautiful words, stories, testimonies of people i have never met and most probably never will.

But daily, monthly, weekly we meet here on the web and fill each others empty spaces, with words that soothe, comfort, welcome, encourage, bless and entertain. We share our drops of grace and eventually when we are done foraging on the net gathering words, when our tea mugs and cups of coffee have been emptied. We walk away with an immeasurable fill of grace.

FMF: Bloom # a conversation with myself

Do not despair my love,

Even when the darkness overcomes the light,

And the clouds cover the sun,

And the rain pours as it thunders

When the only source of light is a lightening

And the only proof you are alive is a faint heartbeat.

Do not give up on life

or the things that mattered at first

because you are in darkness

Darkness is proof

that light exists

and you can never fully appreciate daylight

if you didn’t know that night has passed.

When morning comes,

When the rain dries out

You will be refreshed

the sun will shine on you

and you will say to your fellow soldiers

“We made it through the night,

“On Fridays around these parts we like to write. Not for comments or traffic or anyone else’s agenda. But for pure love of the written word. For joy at the sound of syllables, sentences and paragraphs all strung together by the voice of the speaker.

We love to just write without worrying if it’s just right or not. For five minutes flat.

Here’s how we do it:

1. Write for 5 minutes flat with no editing, tweaking or self critiquing.

2. Link back here and invite others to join in {you can grab the button code in my blog’s footer}.

3. Go and tell the person who linked up before you what their words meant to you. Every writer longs to feel heard.
